Black and Yellow Butterfly
By Emediong Otong
Sitting upon my window
With wings of black and yellow,
Those colours, mingled and swirled as the waves upon the shore.
You spread beauty and love
to anyone who passes by.
I tenderly remember
A moment or two down memory lane.
When we, as children, took turns to view your lovely apparel.
When the sight of you brought us joy and utmost happiness.
When we would run after you, with songs and claps.
The adults looked on in silent pleasure,
When we gathered, begging you to rest on our little fingers.
Then, we cared less about life's troubles.
For you were our guardian Angel.
Oh! How quickly have those days gone by.
Now we go around all day
Forgetting to adore, even for a little while, our dear friend.
Our beautiful Black and yellow butterfly
